After going through airport security with your pet, the noisy, crowded terminal can make you feel overwhelmed. Airport lounges offer a quieter space to relax, and the good news is that many lounges—especially in the United States and Canada—allow pets, as long as they stay in their carriers. However, before you head to the lounge, it’s important to keep in mind a few tips to make your lounge experiences as smooth as possible for both you and your pet.
1. Confirm Airport Lounge Policies Before Arriving
Before heading to the airport, confirm the specific airport lounge pet policies. While most airport lounges in the United States and Canada are pet-friendly, some may have strict no-pet policies. Before arriving to a lounge, especially those that are outside of North America, I suggest that you confirm this with each lounge directly by email or on a phone call.

Once you’ve checked in, try to find a quiet corner away from any food areas. This is not only considerate to other travelers (especially those with pet allergies), but it’s also a great way to avoid unnecessary excitement for your pet. The smell of food can make some pets overly excited, which may make it harder to keep them calm before a flight. And, if you notice any other lounge patrons looking uncomfortable or sneezing, it may be a good idea to move to another area of the airport lounge.
3. Keep Your Pet Inside Their Carrier
Even if the airport lounge is pet friendly, the expectation is that your pet will remain inside their carrier for the duration of your stay. This ensures your pet’s safety, as well as the comfort of other travelers. However, with the right carrier, your pet won’t be uncomfortable.
Having an expandable travel carrier for your pet can make all the difference during your lounge visit! These carriers allow your pet to stretch out a bit more while still being contained. It also provides more room for them without breaking any lounge rules.
